Beta Kit Assembly Questions

Hey Chordata Team!

So I recently received my kit and just wanted to confirm some things and ask a few questions before I start soldering (bear with me, I'm a bit of novice when it comes to soldering electronics).

For the Hub:
-It looks like I’ll need to snap off 8 pins of the 15-pin male pin strip and solder them on starting at J9
-Solder 6 - RJ12 jacks to J1-J6
-Solder a Blue LED to D1
-Solder the USB A port to J11

For each K-Ceptor:
-Solder a 10 Kohm resistor to R1, R2, & R3
-Solder a 1 Kohm resistor to R4
-Solder an RJ12 jack to J1 & J2
-Solder a Blue LED to D1

Let me know if this is correct or if there is something I’m overlooking.

I also have a few questions:

1 - For the LED, does the positive lead go into the square pad?
2 - Is the Hub supposed to have an SMD RGB LED at U4? I’m only seeing 4 soldered pads with nothing connected to them on that part of the board.
3 - Since the R2.2 K-ceptors do not need ID Modules, are all the K-ceptors interchangeable or do they need to be connected to each other based on the translation value marked on their packaging (eg. a chain like this: K-ceptor 0>Kceptor 1>K-ceptor 2>Hub)?
4 - I wasn’t able to find the files for the 3D-printable K-Ceptor socket prototype on your site, can you point me to the correct link?

All your assumptions about where to solder each component are right, and..

AxonSpark 1 - For the LED, does the positive lead go into the square pad?

~~Yes, the longer (positive) leg to the square pad~~(EDIT) Is not as straightforward due to a design mistake, see my other post below

Well, the idea is to include the RGB led in the future, and there is a placeholder footprint on the Hub, but it is not implemented on the software side yet.

The ones we are sending you already include the resistors to assign a translation value which can be 0, 1 or 2. In order to capture a default byped configuration you should arrange them like this:

(If you want to try a different configuration and need to change the value of a K-Ceptor there's a simple procedure to do it, please start another thread to know how)

AxonSpark 4 - I wasn’t able to find the files for the 3D-printable K-Ceptor socket prototype on your site, can you point me to the correct link?

yeah, that is one of the deprecated things on the wiki that we need to change. That 3D printable socket turned out to be a complete nonsense. We are still using velcro. I'll try to update that information as soon as possible.

I've just found out that there's a mistake on the design of one of the boards.

TL;DR:

The consequence is that in the Hub the long leg of the LED goes to the round pad of D1
So, in brief:

In K-Ceptor R2.2 the long led of the LED to the square pad of D1
In Hub R1.2 the long led of the LED to the round pad of D1

Is this some kind of joke?

No, Just a little error on the design of the K-Ceptor R2.2. The polarity of the led symbol was inverted.
It will be fixed for the next revision.
